Tip of the Month: Forecasting Computer Purchases
Any IT Professional will tell you it is difficult to
forecast computer purchases for the company.
Most companies couldn’t tell you what types of
computers they have, much less when their computers will be
obsolete. However,
every computer has a “functional life”, based on how
“state-of-the-art” the machine is at purchase.
This “functional life” is usually two to five
years. By
cataloging each computer’s speed, hard drive space, date of
purchase, and “functional life”, you can develop a sense
of equipment purchases to come.
Reports listing the end of any pc’s “functional
life” next year will then be valuable during the upcoming
budget time.
